Upgrade T68 to C67ML Firmware?

$

I want to upgrade my T68 to C67ML Firmware so I can use Android 4.2. Does anyone know if this is possible?

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=265289

This thread shows the C67 FW will run on a Boyue(!) so I would think I could flash it to an Onyx T68. Also the thread discusses a Gonyx ROM that is based on C76 FW and works on a Boyue.

I was planning to upgrade to Onyx 4.4 ROM, but I read it has problems with Bluetooth. If I can upgrade to stable C67 Android 4.2 FW that would work better for me. Is it possible to use on a T68?

c67ml carta 2 user manual

Have purchased the c67 ml but not received it yet. Tried to get a copy of the user manual but it looks like it is available only on "pcloud".

Question is whether there is another place to get a copy of the 1.8.1 user manual. Access to the manuals in pcloud required one to sign in & I don't want to "sign in"/register onto another place just to get Onyx's manual for the e-reader.

Boox N96's Screen Flexibility

$

Hello,

I am using Boox N96CML for a month. The device is working normally. But, a few days ago, I noticed something.

When I press the bottom-left part of the screen, 1-2 mm stretches. It's like it's not exactly stick to the metal frame of the device. It is not fixed. Whereas, flexibility is not so evident in the upper-right part.

For example, the flexibility in Sony Reader is not that evident ...

There was no crushing in the product package, when the product reached me. The factory sack was closed.

Is a product defect, I'm not sure. For this reason, I am wondering friends who own the Boox N96. Is there such flexibility in your screen too? Especially on the lower left.

I do not know, maybe it's normal with these models. Just, the number of screws in that part is small.

I'd like to get your idea.

Onyx just published a invitation(in Chinese) about attending Hong Kong Electronics Fair(Spring Edition) from April 13 to 16th.
In the invitation they also describe shortly about the product they would be showing.
They are:
  • BOOX MAX Carta(13.3")
  • BOOX Note(10.3" flexible screen; both touch and stylus support)
  • BOOX N96 Carta series(9.7"; both touch and stylus support)
  • BOOX Kepler(6")
  • BOOX C67ML Carta2(6")
  • BOOX 打字机(typewriter?)(9.7 eink typewriter for better writing and reading)
And all the products are equipped with Carta screen except the tpyewriter(at least in the invitation).

I rooted it already, but I have no idea what to do from here. Anyone have any guides? I want to install an app called Voice Dream Reader which requires Android v 4.4, and the C67ML comes preloaded with Android 4.2. I'm relatively new to the Android OS so some of the more complex stuff I'm not familiar with yet. Any help? :thanks:

BOOX M96C Plus repairing

My BOOX M96C Plus screen was damaged.
I bought it from ereader-store.de, so I asked them to repair it.
They replied.

Quote:

We could repair your device,
...
If you want us to repair your device please send it to our maintenance office in Germany:
...
We will first repair your device and send you an invoice afterwards.
After I sent my device, I asked the status, but they wouldn't reply at all.
Finally, my device has come back because the post office storage limitation expired.

Then I asked to sales@onyx-international.com whether they could repair it, but they also won't reply.
I like the device, but their support brings a sense of distrust.
What can I do?

Any advice is appreciated.

Onyx Boox Max 13.3" How to trigger screenshots

Hello Onyx Boox Support;

I accidentally managed to trigger a screen shot (thought it was not possible) on the Onyx Boox Max 13.3" running 1.8.2 firmware.

What is the proper procedure to trigger the screenshot and where are they kept?

Any experience on Boox Max as a PDF reader?

Hi!, I was the owner of a Boox A60, so I know of Onyx software rough edges. I tinkered a lot with it and on average my experience was satisfactory. I'm now the owner of a paperwhite, pretty happy with my general purpose reading.

So I was hoping you could share your experience with the onyx boox max, limiting to academic PDFs usage.

This is the only "neutral" review I found, and it's a bit old.

The price of these devices is quite significant on my budget, but with the Carta dpi increase a second hand DPT-S1 doesn't seem a choice (the cheapest winning bid I found is ~700USD on ebay).
I also read good reviews about Booxtor's international customer service, living on South America where these devices are not sold it's worth to consider that.

So what I want to hear about is (please limit to pdf's):

1- What was your experience with heavy +100MB PDFs?
2- What was your experience browsing pdf books (search functions)?
3- What was your experience making highlights and annotations?
4- How does an exported pdf looks like after highlights, notes and annotations? (Any sample is welcome :) )
5- Do you consider that the weight of the device affected your experience? Do you think the ~130g difference with the DPT-S1 would have changed that experience?
6- Cloud synchronization: What was your experience with google drive and/or dropbox / anything else?

Ideally I'd go for a DPT-RP1, but seeing the Japanese release date on June 5th, I guess the English release can't be earlier that late September / October.

Do you think it's worth the wait for the Next Gen of readers, considering they'll come with the same screen as the Max Carta?

Thanks for your comments.

N96ML - Handwritting Notes

$

Dear all,
I am a new user of a BOOX N96ML (just updated to 1.8.1; purchased from ereader-store.de). I have tried the pre-installed [Notes] app which is fairly good and smooth. But note that after long use, I ended loosing a couple of times multiple pages, I suppose is a memory issue.

Nevertheless, I am interested for any experience getting something more advanced like [MS OneNote] to work on it. I have installed an older APK (v15+ that is compatible with Android V4.0.4), because I couldn't install any newer. Configuration and notebook opening works fine but final pages are "dark". I can type (not scribble), and changes sync both ways, but I cannot see any because note page is always dark (pitch black :D).

Anyone successful to make it work?
thanks

Onyx Boox M96 Died

2 years and a few months after purchase, my Onyx Boox M96 died for an unknown reason. There was no crashing or smashing, only gentle touches.

When I press the ON button, the light briefly flashes (orange, violet), and turns off. It seems the battery is depleted. But: When I connect it to the computer via USB cable, there is no reaction what so ever. I have tried different USB cables, and different chargers and PC USB. But no reaction. Nothing.

Any advice, please?

Recover Note app for Boox Max?

I accidentally removed the "Note" app on my Boox Max, the application that lets me do writing and drawing with the stylus pen. I wanted to try disabling and then enabling the app to see if i could get a duplicate entry to be removed from the home screen quick launch bar since I have found no way to remove icons once they have been placed.

Anyways, I did this all from the 'Manage Apps' interface on the device, I cleared the data with the clear data button. To my knowledge that doesn't erase the app itself, it just clears any data that app has such as saved notes. I disabled the app and then when i tried looking at my installed apps again it is nowhere to be found.

Can anyone provide me with a file to reinstall this app? It's not on the google play store and nothing i've found on the store functions correctly on this device.

In case you are oddly low on space (solution)

You may sometimes receive an error according to which you cannot install new software applications, because "the device is low on space".
That "device" is in fact '/data'.
I just found out yesterday that the device may not always do a clean-up after installing software, and probably this may be revealed by a warning 'rm failed for -f, No such file or directory'.
Fact is, the location '/data/local/tmp/' may still contain the installation packages for past applications (as revealed by a `ll /data/local/tmp/`). That "tmp" stands for "temporary".
Luckily enough, that location is not protected - any user can delete the files. So you can issue an `rm /data/local/tmp/*` to empty that location and release surprising amounts of space (space availability that is reported simply by `df`). Commands such as those indicated can be issued chiefly through `adb` on your desktop computer, or through terminals on the device (like jackpal.androidterm AKA "Terminal Emulator").

(Of course, be careful when using `rm`, the command to delete files. Android is well protected against accidental deletions of system files - and, correctly, only those files...)

Schematically:
Code:

df    # check avaliable space for apps. Look at /data
ll /data/local/tmp/    # verify you have junk there
rm /data/local/tmp/*  # remove the junk

Of course, [legal disclaimer here]

c67ml carta2 does not have "system update"!

I have a c67ml carta2 that came with firmware 1.8.1. The web page for firmware updates says to do 'about->system update', etc. but my c67ml does not have the 'system update' listed.

Maybe 'system update' disappeared with 1.8.1 & now cannot update to 1.8.2? Does anyone have 1.8.1 installed & is the 'system update' available???

Or must I have to do the tools thing & have to reinstall everything as I had read that the factory tool will delete all data.
