Boox max original w/ no stylus?

So hit an interesting problem with a family member's original boox max - they've unfortunately lost the stylus, and are having a lot of trouble sourcing a replacement. Boox sent a triangular stylus that doesn't work, and we've also tried bamboo / intuos 3 / surface 3 models.

Now the big issue is that it's non-touch, so it's impossible to select menu options without the stylus.

I've tried
Factory reset through back/power. This now gets stuck at the "select language" screen.
Firmware update (i have no idea what version is on there). Hitting flash from external storage in recovery just throws E:unknown volume for SD card. There are old instructions around for flashing through mfgtool, but these are now dead links.
USB OTG mouse (disabled in firmware?)

Is there something obvious that I'm missing, or are there any styluses that are compatible with the original max? It was only bought second hand a few months back and is still in new condition so I'm not willing to ditch it over a missing stylus...

Note 3 pen writes without touching

Hello
I just got my new Note 3 and I've bumped into a issue. I've googled to try and find a solution and failed.
My pen writes without touching :o Meaning if I dangle the pen about 1 cm above the Note 3 it starts to write. It's quite annoying because I cant separate words when handwriting :o

Kon-tiki

I noticed the Kon-tiki 7.8" reader on the Onyx website the other day. A version 2 with Android 10 is coming in the next few days. I hadn't seen either version of this reader before and there isn't any commentary about it here, as far as I can see. I gather that it's like the Nova, but without tablet/stylus functionality. Anyone used one of these before with thoughts about it?

Best ways to optimize experience with the Poke 3?

I want to get the most out of my new Poke 3, was wondering what my options are. I don't really see any suggestions other than getting a third party ebook app. I was able to make my experience a lot more enjoyable with my old Libra H20 by installing plato which I found to be miles better than the stock software, and somewhat better than koreader (for my intents purposes).

I'm reluctant to install google play + it's services, or any alternative apps from the native browser/reader apps in fear that I would reduce my screen on time, so I've just been using the stock apps so far. What have you guys found to be best practice with your boox devices?

Surprisingly I've found battery life to be close to my old kobo if I just use the stock apps with the wifi/bluetooth turned off. I get around the same reading time with both when the front light is in use, but still get significantly more screen time with the kobo if it's turned off. Since we're running android here on the poke3, are there any other ways increase the battery duration? I'm open to using adb to disable/remove some apps or services to skinny the OS a bit. I'm curious what others have found to be effective. Would be great if there was a kernel manager that worked with this device, I think with how slow the screen is that the snapdragon SoC is faster than it needs to be at its stock configuration.

No way to export text from the Notes app?

I got drawn into the Apple ecosystem and use their notes app despite it's limitations because of the simplicity and sync between all devices (MacBook/iPad/iPhone).

But when at hand, I would like to use my Onyx Boox Max2 for note writing and use the hand writing recognition and then export the recognized text, send it to my MacBook and paste it into Apple Notes.

It just seems that the current Onyx Notes App only allows to export as a PDF, which is overkill for me. An earlier version also allowed to export in text format, no idea why they canceled that option.

Is there something that I'm missing, or is that workflow simply not possible?

Rebooting to bootloader freeze

Hi,

Trying to root my NotePro V3.0, everything went fine except I could not get it into the bootloader mode, tried both adb command and recovery. What exactly does the bootloader look like?

Basically the UI freezes when I run adb reboot bootloader. Recovery freezes with a line "rebooting to bootloader".

Any ideas?

NotePro shuts off after it's disconnected from power

Hi all!
I currently have the NotePro running v3.0 and I bought it about a year and half ago.
I noticed now that I'm using it more on the go ,that if leave it 30 min without a charger connected it just freezes (and turns off I assume) even though it has 100% battery
Is it this likely a software issue or my battery died out and needs replacing? (Not sure how it was before v3.0 because I very rarely disconnected it from power)

Screen issue with new Onyx Boox Poke 3

Hello everybody.

I bought a Poke 3 and it arrived last Friday. I really like it and have everything working as I want.

However, when I picked it up this morning I noticed that the screen is not working properly, making it unusable.

It's difficult to describe, so here's a video.

Any ideas? It doesn't seem to be software caused, a restart didn't fix it. Neither did having it plugged in for hours.

Google gone, new Onyx, why?

Got an Onyx and everything worked fine. Then just recently any service from Google stopped working. So no more Google Translate, Gmail, Google Drive, Google ..., everything Google isn't working anymore.

I tried booting, didn't work. I tried signing in/out, and all that happened was that I signed out but couldn't sign in anymore. See the error below. Got an idea what's happening?

Syncing stopped working a while ago.

how to view/filter library by series/series index

My Nova Pro is awesome but has one long-standing deficiency (for me): in the library view I can't view, filter or sort my books by series: I often want to read books in the same series, in a particular order, but can't always remember which title comes before the next: unfortunately I haven't found any way to configure the library viewer to show my this (series + series index) information or to interact with it. Short of installing another e-reader that has its own built-in library view, is there any way to achieve this?

[FOUND] Cheap stylus replacement for Boox Note Pro

Hi,

The inevitable happened and I lost my stylus for Boox Note Pro. A quick look around the Internet revealed that these things are not cheap! :eek:

I wasn't ready to spend up to £50 for a replacement (even though the top of the range pens look nice, but would it work with my reader?) so I took a chance, went on ebay and bought something advertised as Digitizer Stylus Pen For Fujitsu T730 T732 T900 T901 T726 T5010 Lifebook.

It looks like this:



It's the bottom one (the middle one is a stylus that came originally with Boox N96ML).

It cost me £6 delivered and most importantly it works! The button on a side and the eraser both work too. The eraser has to be actually depressed to work, just touching the screen does not activate it.

The pen's length is 13.4cm. I needed to go through calibration process as it was a bit off but seems to be working fine now. The side button rattles a bit and the whole thing has a cheap feel to it but for the price I'm not going to complain. I hope it won't stop working after a day :p

If you are interested this is the ebay listing I got mine from. I'm going to get another one to have a backup now!

Boox Note 2 - Two Page Spread :blink:

Hello,
I'm a new user to the Boox Note 2 and I am attempting something which I feel should be easy but having difficulty.

How do you get a two page spread on the same document? So advancing a page, would show the current page and the subsequent page at the same time.

I can open a split view of the same document, however the two pages operate independent of one another.

The effect I am looking for is as if a book lay before me, and two pages could be viewed at once.

Configure the ONYX Remoter?

Hej all,

I'd like to customize my Onyx Remoter: I almost exclusively use the left/right buttons to turn pages in the Neo Reader app, so the up/down buttons could be used otherwise - preferably, I would like to put Pg Up and Pg Down on these buttons to page down / up in the web browser or other reading app instead of scrolling.

Has anyone figured out a way to do this? It seems the Remoter is recognized as a Bluetooth keyboard. Could one way to achieve this be to load a keyboard configuration / keymapping onto my Boox? Can somebody get me started on creating this myself?

How Do I Export my Book Annotations to EverNote or to my computer?

Hello everyone. I am a new e-reader user, with a recently bought Boox Note2. I use EverNote for taking notes on the books I read, and have synced it with my Boox Note2.

Now, after reading my first book on my e-reader and taking annotations, I would like to export those annotations to my EverNote account. I have heard that some people have exported annotations as a .txt file to their computer, which would work just as well for me because I could copy and paste those notes to an EverNote file.

On my Boox Note2, I have found how to access my annotations for my books, by going to my "account" page and then clicking on "annotations". However, once I reach this point, I have no idea what to do next. I need some help with finding out how to export my annotations to EverNote or to my computer. If I could get some advice for how to do so, I would greatly appreciate it.

Configure Remoter auto-sleep?

Hej all,

another question for remoter users: my remoter seems to disconnect from the onyx after fairly short periods of idle time. Specifically, when I take longer to read a page (this is science, so I may ponder a page for 20 minutes easily), pressing the right arrow on the remoter will not advance the page but only trigger the onyx to make a sound - I'm assuming it is reconnecting with the device. A second press of the right arrow will then advance the page.

This is suboptimal for me. Ideally, I would like to set the time before the remoter goes to "sleep" mode to a much longer interval. Anyone knows about this?

Problems with Article Mode on Neo Reader 3

Hi everyone! I came across this site on more than one aimless google search, and always had all my problems resolved. Happy to join, hope I'll have something to contribute.

I have a specific issue with the Neo Reader app in the Note 3, which works well for me in other respects:
When choosing Article Mode (under Navigation) on the app, the zoom level changes every few panels. Its not just that the text gets cropped out (that's usual) - but that you get a different scale for every panel, covering a different part of the page: one panel will take out half the page, another a quarter etc., which basically makes the feature pointless...
This hampers my reading experience quite a bit, since many of the texts that I read are in a two column format.
I can't figure out what triggers it - the shape of a given page doesn't seem to be a factor, and it does not recur on every given number of pages. This leads me to assume we're dealing with a bug.
Has anyone else come across this issue? Is there a fix?

(If the issue can't be resolved, I'd be happy to know if there's a tested way to rollback a software version on Note 3 or download & use the Neo Reader 2. None of the options discussed in the forum work for me. This issue also seems to occur in other Onyx devices.)

Onyx Note Air simple use cases - How?!!

Hello,

I have MacBook, iPhone and now Note Air.*
Do you know how I can accomplish the following use cases? It must be very simple but struggled to find a track.*

1. Create a note, recognize it to a text document and share it via dropbox?

2. Create a note, recognize it to a text document and send by email?

3. Create a note with texts and pictures, recognize only texts and keep pictures as is. Convert to pdf and share via dropbox or send it by email. It's even better if I can embed pictures into email.

Max Lumi (Boox wide?) annotation mixup problem

Hi all!

I came across a bug with the associations between annotations and documents in firmware version 2020-11-19_13-50_3.0_88a2f03 on the Onyx Boox Max Lumi.
Given the bug characteristics (seemingly systematic) and the shared code base across models, I suspect it may be more widespread.

Annotations seem to be associated with all copies of a given file on the device. So annotations done on one of the copies will be shown on all of them.
One modification done to a file copy on an external source (e.g. the PC) dissociates it from the annotations.
I would therefore surmise the association is based on a hash value (which would imply that (albeit unlikely) mixups might even happen between unrelated documents, should their hash values coincide.

Procedure to verify whether your device is affected:
- copy 3 copies of any PDF or DocX form on the device (2 identical, 1 partly filled in on the PC)
- open one of the clear forms on the Boox and annotate it
- close this copy (by tapping on the 'X' in the tab listing, should you have enabled ' multiple documents' in the NeoReader) and open the other ones

In my case, the second identical file now sports the annotations I have done on the first, while the partially filled one does not show the annotations (only what was done on the PC).
Please note that if you have opened multiple copies simultaneously, it seems to work at first, but you'll get weird effects after, e.g., a reboot.

Can you folks please confirm this behaviour? It makes it factually impossible to fill in multiple versions of a form on the Lumi.
Maybe someone has a suggestion for a workaround, waiting for a potential fix. (Using Notes does not really work, either, for partly landscape multi-page forms)
